Fuel Brewing Co 12th May 2025
In early May 2025, we made our first trip to Tasmania—an epic research mission in search of the freshest hops our southern land has to offer. Touching down in Hobart, we were immediately swept up in the island’s vibrant culture, incredible food scene, and close connection to producers. From the paddock to the pint, Tasmania is a brewer’s paradise.
While there are fantastic hop farms across Australia, some of the most prized varieties—like Galaxy, Enigma, and Vic Secret—thrive in Tasmania and Victoria’s cooler climates, where clean air, fertile soil, and ideal growing conditions make for truly exceptional hops. We swung past the fields of Hop Products Australia (HPA) on the road, and it never ceases to amaze how these incredible flowers are cultivated, harvested, and prepared for brewers across the globe.
We also had the pleasure of visiting Cascade Brewery (Australia’s oldest), and checked out some of Hobart’s most exciting locals including Hobart Brewing Co., Fox Friday’s taproom, and Spotty Dog Brewery. Each venue showcased unique flavours and brewing techniques, but the real highlight was tasting wet-hop beers made using hops fresh off the bine—bursting with bright, earthy, and floral notes you can only capture in that magical post-harvest window.
We had a blast, and we’ve come back to Bulimba full of fresh ideas, new recipes, and exciting plans to fuel the next chapter at Fuel Brewing Co. Tasmania inspired us, and we can’t wait to share the results with you soon.
